Analysis of Data – vocabulary used across discipline-based themes

During the analysis of the data collected from interviews, surveys, observations and feedback, it became apparent that the vocabulary used by the different specialist groups i.e. curators, designers, launch guests and visitors, was significantly different. This was not really a surprise, although in using NVivo’s word frequency facility, the outcomes raised further interest in how it might be possible to form a common vocabulary for easier communication and collaboration across the different groups.

The animated word frequency clouds shown in the following posts highlight the varying importance of certain areas within the disciplines/groups and the language/vocabulary used. (More information regarding the thematic analysis for all data collated can be found in Chapter 3.)

Subsequent research has resulted in the understanding that communication across disciplines and the language used is a growing concern for areas where collaboration amongst multi-disciplined teams is required – a growing area in itself with user centred design and design thinking.
